H&R Block Debuts Improved 2014 1040EZ Filing App

Smartphone App from H&R Block

On-the-go filing easier and faster for DIY taxpayers filing simple returns

Do-it-yourself taxpayers now can file their 2013 simple returns with the revamped H&R Block  (NYSE: HRB) 1040EZ app. The filing app, which is free to download for iPhone and Android smartphones, launched this week. The app is available in both English and Spanish all tax season, and through Feb. 15 taxpayers can file both federal and state returns via the app free.

“The H&R Block 1040EZ app enables taxpayers with simple returns to file in around 10 minutes,” said Jason Houseworth, president of retail and digital products for H&R Block. “Thanks to the enhanced optical character recognition capabilities, taking a picture of the W-2 to automatically transfer the data into the return makes filing quick and easy. Plus, for a limited time both federal and state filings are free.”

Filing made EZ for college students, recent grads

Generally, a 1040EZ filer is one who files as single or married filing jointly, doesn’t pay mortgage interest, has no dependents and earned less than $100,000. The 1040EZ app, however, now supports Form 1098-T (reports tuition payments) and continues to support scholarship income, which allows students with slightly more complicated filing needs to use the app. Recent graduates may use the EZ app and deduct student loan interest paid.

The 1040EZ filing app, which can be found on iTunes, Android market and Google Play, offers the same H&R Block guarantees of free audit support, free audit representation, 100-percent accurate calculations and the maximum tax benefit taxpayers deserve.
